my time in nashville extended beyond the bachelorette shenanigans to some pretty epic tourist to-dos and lots of delicious food. my parents flew out and met me in music city to do some sight seeing and take in all that nashville has to offer. one of our first stops? the johnny cash museum! this place was unreal. everything you needed to know about johnny was in this small, intimate museum. clothes, guitars, video footage, stories, letters, and anything johnny related. it was a great way to kick off our sight seeing and totally fan girl over one of nashvilles biggest and brightest stars.

labor day weekend i had the opportunity to head up to hollywood and see john williams and the la philharmonic play at the hollywood bowl. john williams is a fantastic conductor who has done the scores to all of the steven spielberg movies. talk about epic! every summer he puts on a concert with the la philharmonic orchestra, one of the premier orchestras around. he plays songs from the movies he is most well known for; indiana jones, lincoln, e.t. and star wars, to name a few.
the coolest part of the whole thing? the hollywood bowl. that place is awesome. i had never been to the bowl before and i was in awe the minute we walked in. we had great seats in one of the boxes, pretty much dead center! you can bring in picnics and beverages or you can order dinner from the bowl and enjoy food before the show.
the night we went was a warm one, so we sipped on some crisp white wine as we enjoyed the show. it was so relaxing, being under the starts listening to all the movie songs you know be played by an unbelievably talented orchestra. it was definitely a night to remember.

last weekend my friend and i headed out to dana point for their chili cook off and country jamboree. i had been searching the internet for fun and free events around orange county to enjoy on my last weekend day off and i was lucky enough to come across the chili cook off! the free event had beer vendors, food trucks, chili competitors and country bands. we grabbed some beer, tasted some chili and did our best "judging" of the chili we tried. we, of course, had our favorites, which really doesn't mean much to the cooks but makes us feel official, ha! we grabbed a front row seat on our blanket and rocked out to the band, who was super fun and fantastic and sung top 40 country songs. it was such a great afternoon just hanging out in the sun, drinking some local craft beer and listening to some great country music. i may have even sung every word to a couple songs at the top of my lungs ;)
