so cal blogger meet up // paint & wine night

Monday, April 2, 2012

happy monday! and happy april! thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, whether here on the blog or via twitter - you all are too sweet. i loved waking up to many tweets and texts and emails! my birthday weekend was a ton of fun!

friday night some of us so cal bloggers got together for a paint and wine night and i couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off my birthday celebrations. paint n vineyard in scripps ranch so graciously hosted all 20 of us for a fun painting class. we all brought snacks and were even lucky enough to have marie from 12 signs wine provide some "inspiration" for our evening.

paint n vineyard is such a neat little art studio. they do classes throughout the week where you can learn to paint their featured art work. they have artists who walk you through step by step and they provide all supplies! plus, it's a BYOB class and enjoying a glass (or 2) of wine is encouraged!

like i mentioned, we were lucky enough to have 12 signs wine at our event. their wine is delicious and is inspired by the zodiac signs - there is a different wine for each kind of sign! my sign is aries, which is a fire sign, and marie explained which wine coinsided with my sign and why. it was fun learning about my sign and the wine! plus, all four of their wines are absolutely delicious! and i know this first hand because i tried them all! it was my birthday, after all.

it was such a fun night. i loved being able to hang out with all these wonderful ladies and laugh at all of our painting skills.  they even all sung me happy birthday and i turned bright red and almost cried (as captured in the above image).  it's crazy how this huge blogging community can turn out such wonderful friendships.  i'm so lucky to be able to call all these girls friends.  can't wait until the next time we can all get together.

how to plan a blogger meetup

Thursday, February 16, 2012

hi guys!  i'm so happy to have stephanie & tammy here to give you all some advice on how to plan a blogger meet-up. since the last meet-up, i've received a few emails about how to go about planning a meet-up in your area.  well, have no fear, these 2 ladies know a thing of two on this subject.  they were definitely the brains behind most of the so cal blogger meet-up operations.  i, myself, brought the fun to the table (ha!)

since throwing socal blogger meet-up number 1 & 2, we have both received an overwhelming amount of e-mails asking for tips on how they can plan a meet-up in their area. we love hearing about people in other areas of the country wanting to get together and finally meet face-to-face! we also thought it might be helpful to put together a list of tips to help make your meet-up a success.

with the first socal blogger meet-up, we (along with olivia & kelsey) planned it in about 2 weeks and had a guesstimate of 15 people. we did it through a simple evite site, and were not prepared for the amount of people who ended up rsvping! we had to cap the event at 30 people, and although the event was a success, we were all pretty stressed out come the day of. the first meet-up gave us a lot of trial and error. we had so many ideas rolling in our heads of how we could make the next meet-up even better!

with the second socal blogger meet-up, we (along with oliviakelseyhollie, & kai) tried to do it on a much larger scale. we started planning months in advance for this one with lots of late nights get togethers to discuss details and create a plan of how this meet-up would go! we guesstimated that we could get together 45 girls, and we were again way off. we ended up having to, also, cap the event at 60 people. the fact that we still had a waitlist after that blew our minds! the event ended up being a huge success.

so with the trial and error that we've learned after having 2 meet-ups, here's some tips on how you can make your meet-up a success!

have help
make sure that you have help, even if it's only 1 other person! DO NOT try to plan a meet-up on your own. you will only stress yourself out.

+ well... not too much help
on that same note, a lot of people will want to help you plan and be apart of things. that's good! but depending on how many people you want to have attend, keep a core group of 3 or 4 girls that you know you will work well with and will be productive.

promote, promote, promote!
make sure to make a button for the event so people can share it on their blogs, and utilize your resources! twitter, facebook, and of course your blog are all good ways to get the word out there about your meet-up.

staying organized
create google docs to keep track of sponsors, decorations, attendees, to-do lists, anything! share these documents with your fellow planners. it will help you stay on the same page about things and keep track of what needs to be done.

how did you get such awesome venues & sponsors?
a lot of people have asked how we get so many sponsors and such awesome venues. the key is to HAVE NO SHAME! you guys, companies love bloggers. really love bloggers. and the ones who understand the power that blogging can have? they will love you even more. we had no shame in asking people if they would like to contribute to the event! some companies said no, but the ones who understoond blogging were so excited to help. {it's okay if you get some no's in the beginning. don't let that discourage you! just keep on being your shameless self.} thankfully, we were lucky enough to come in contact with amazing companies and brands who understood and were more than willing to become sponsors of the event and donate. this is the reason why we were able to have almost $3,000 in raffle prizes and send something home with everyone at the second meet-up. some people even received 2 prizes!

how do i contact said venues & sponsors?
when you contact these companies do not use a premade email template. personalize the email, explain the event, and tell them how their contributions would help them gain business and why your attendees would be interested in their brand. furthermore, don't be afraid to walk into a shop, talk about your event, and explain how you will promote their business. people want to hear your voice when it's in relation to their company!

charge for your event
charging for your event, even if it is just a small fee, helps in more ways than one. people are most likely to commit to attending when they have paid to attend an event. we didn't charge for the first meet-up, and had a lot of people who did not show up the day of. we understand, things happen! but it really does help to have a semi-accurate headcount. especially because we had informed the venue how many girls we were expecting and we had spent time preparing swag bags for each attendee. the money from ticket sales went to decorations and the candy bar we prepared for the attendees as a little way to say thank you. we used eventbrite to keep track of rsvps and ticket sales and charged $5-$7 for our tickets depending on how far in advance the attendees bought their tickets.

breaking the ice
understand your guests and put yourself in their shoes! they're walking into a room of women they've never met before and have to hang out with them for the next 4 hours. it can be a little awkward, right? it's important to help ease people into the situation and make them feel comfortable. this is where games come in... we're not talking first day of class in high school, stand up and say your name and 1 fact about you sort of games. games that no one should feel awkward participating in! blogger bingo {creating a "bingo" sheet with 1 fact about each blogger, making everyone go around and figure out who is who. first one to get 5 in a row wins!}, tape a celebrity to everyone's back and have them ask yes or no question to find out who they are, and don't say the words "blog", "blogging", "blogger" were some of the ones we found a lot of success with

have a photographer
you are more than likely going to be running around like a chicken with your head cut off trying to make sure that everything is going over smoothly, so make sure that you have someone that is there to document the event. i know from experience that i have not pulled out my camera once the entire time at both meet-ups, which is why i'm so happy that i still had someone there to make sure every little detail was documented!

make it worth their while
after the meet-up, make sure you follow up with everyone who helped with your event. this includes sponsors and attendees! make a link-up list to allow everyone to stay in contact, e-mail your sponsors with pictures of their product thanking them again. make sure they know that you appreciate them and their contributions.

make sure that you have fun!
you just planned this huge event and it's so easy to get lost in making sure everyone is having a good time, but remember to have fun and mingle to! take the time to talk to each one of your guests and let them know how much you appreciate them coming. afterall, isn't that while you planned this whole meet-up in the first place?

so cal blogger meetup // the party continues

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

after the blogger meetup on saturday, olivia, tammy, steph, mandey and i took a little stroll down to the beach to catch the sunset (tammys brilliant idea!)  the weather was amazing on saturday and it would've been a shame if we let it go to waste.  la jolla village is such a beautiful little beach community.  nestled right up on the cliffs and surrounded by beautiful blue ocean, it's definitely a great place to take in the beauty that is san diego.  i love walking around all the little shops and restaurants.  everything is quaint and peaceful, in an upper class kind of way.

while we were at the beach, we took some pictures and acted like wanna be models in the sunset.  im such a goon in front of the camera, i'm amazed that i actually look semi normal in these, ha!  all pictures are from mandey and steph - thanks girls!!

giving thanks: so cal blogger meet up sponsors

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

What better time to give some thanks to our wonderful sponsors and contributors of the So Cal Blogger Meet-up than the week of Thanksgiving?  Without these awesome people / stores / businesses / etc., the event wouldn't have been as big of a success as it was (if I do say so, myself).  Please check out their websites and shops and love them as much as I already do! Can't wait to work with everyone on the next meet-up!!

And special thanks to Dawn - for helping us get in contact with some great vendors and great hook-ups! PR at it's finest people!

For hosting us, feeding us and spoiling us with champagne. The venue was beautiful and comfortable and perfect!

For photographing the event and donating a photo sesh for the raffle.  The pictures are amazing!

For the (of course, amazing) cupcakes!

For donating the gift bags! Mine has definitely come in handy more than once already!

For donating some fabulous classes to the raffle. I know both ladies who won were giddy to get their fitness on.

DryBar...
For being amazing enough to throw some raffle prizes together for us the day of the event.

For donating a lovely box of baked goods to the raffle. I'm pretty sure there was almost a fight over that box.

For contributing to our shopping urges.

For knowing that we all need a good blog design and offering your services.

For donating to both the raffle with your gorgeous jewelry as well as the goodie bags.

For the gorgeous necklace donated to the raffle. The perfect amount of dainty.

For the gift cards in the goodie bags. Us bloggers love to shop handmade!

For sending us raffle gifts filled with coziness and love from afar.

For helping us look a little better with the donated earrings for the goodie bags.

And an extra big thanks to the lovely ladies who I had the pleasure of working and hosting the meet-up with - Olivia, Tammy and Stephanie!  Can't wait to do it again, girls!

recap: so cal blogger meetup

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Ok so if you follow me on twitter or saw my weak excuse for a post about the meet-up, you will know how much fun we all had at the event. It was so much fun to meet all the fabulous bloggers who joined us. Now it's time for some pictures, courtesy of the wonderful Karina Irene, who joined us and snapped photos all night! Kai was even lucky enough to win a free photo sesh from her in the raffle - such a lucky girl (wonder who gave you all that luck - ha!).

Sip at Flavor Del Mar was kind enough to host all of us girls for the night. They provided us with a fantastic spread of appetizers and a champagne toast, as well as happy hour prices at the wine bar all evening! Nothing like a bit of liquor to get everyone chatting! We had dessert donated by Sprinkles and tons of fun raffle prizes from our sponsors. Overall, the night was a great success!!

If you want to read more posts from all the lovely ladies who attended, hop on over to Tammy's blog and check out the link up! If you want to join us at our next meet-up, please let us know! We are hoping to hold the next one in January! And last but not least, a very special thank you to all our fabulous sponsors. Without you, the event would not have been as great as it was!
