You guys know I'm a big fan of finding new recipes to try, especially when it comes to a great new cocktail. Well, have I got one to share with you today! This one involves a great Guatemalan rum, Zacapa premium rum, that's aged to perfection in the hills high above sea level. According to the Zacapa website, the cool mountain air slows the ageing process, creating a unique complexity of flavor, and "The House Above the Clouds" is actually one of the world’s highest ageing facilities. Only in this precise spot can Zacapa’s exceptionally deep aroma, full color and rich palate reach perfection.
Now, to be honest, I've never been much of a dark rum fan because they are usually too strong for my taste-buds. But guys, this premium dark rum is unbelievable. I could honestly drink it straight up without anything added. I never thought I'd see the day when that happened! It's sweet, flavorful and barely burns when it goes down. But, if you need to sweeten it up a bit, this recipe I found on Zacapa's website is delicious and was a big hit with my friends!
Zacapa Estilo Viejo
Standard measure of Zacapa 23
Angostura bitter
Angostura orange bitters
Sugar syrup
Serve Zacapa 23 in a rocks glass. Add ice, bitters and sugar syrup to taste, then stir. Garnish with an orange twise and pair with complementary dark chocolate.
