eat: cinnamon roll french toast

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

you guys, i have been craving french toast for like two weeks now. i'm not usually much of a breakfast person but for some reason all i could think about was french toast! so i go to make some, and we are out of bread. just my luck, right? but wait, there's a can of pillsbury cinnamon rolls in the fridge! so i google cinnamon roll french toast, and low and behold, pillsbury has a recipe. just like that, my day is made. and seriously you guys, this was some on the best french toast i've ever made. it's pretty darn easy to make, and really really tasty. so yeah, it's pretty great.

ingredients

1 can (12.4 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
4 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla

directions

Bake cinnamon rolls as directed on package. Let rolls cool completely.

Spray griddle or 10-inch skillet with cooking spray; heat griddle to 375°F or heat skillet over medium heat. Slice each roll in half crosswise.

In shallow dish, whisk eggs, milk, 2 tablespoons of the maple syrup and the vanilla until blended. Dip each cinnamon roll slice into egg mixture, turning to coat completely. Place on griddle. Cook about 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

In small bowl, whisk reserved icing, the remaining 2 tablespoons maple syrup and enough warm water to create a pourable syrup consistency. Serve over French toast.

i sprinkled some powdered sugar and a bit of cinnamon on top of my french toast.  i'm a lush when it comes to cinnamon, so the more the merrier.  i even saved some of the cinnamon rolls and egg batter to make the next day.  i added cinnamon to the egg batter and it was even more delicious.  if you guys try out the recipe, let me know how you like it!  it's definitely going to be a breakfast staple in my kitchen!

What the heck- this is the coolest idea ever! I would want to top it with syrup and cinnabon-style icing!
